ABOUT THE BOOK
No family expects to split apart.
For Bucket, her brother Arthur, and their single mother Florence, life is kind of crazy, a little bit scattered and is always full of surprises. No family expects to split apart, but luckily Florence has always told the Gabriel and Gwyneth stories to her children and that piece of continuity is really helping them cope with the monumental changes they experience. The bad news is those changes just keep on coming.
While the children are busy at school and active in a local children’s choir, Florence is focused on the sabbatical she’s been granted for the coming year and all the decisions that come with it. Without his family’s knowledge, Arthur is trying to hold his own against the classroom bullies.
Teaching children that problems in life must be faced with courage, humility, creativity, and patience, The Adventures of Bucket and Arthur shows single parent households and children of divorce that they are not alone. There is nothing stronger than the love of family.
“It takes a village to raise a child—and in Moorland, that village is filled with warmth, music, and room to roam.”

READ AN EXCERPT
“What’s a sabbatical?”
In a little while the smells of spaghetti sauce filled the air. The pasta pot quietly bubbled its contents. Bucket and her mother were setting the table, as Arthur came in the door with the dog. Presto was panting heavily and really smelled of damp dog.
“Wow, you gave her a run anyway, Arthur,” his mother commented.
“It started to rain, Mom. I decided to run with Presto. She loved it!” Arthur said as he shrugged out of his wet jacket.
At dinner, talk was all about Bucket’s audition for the school musical and the upcoming choir tour. Arthur was mainly interested in exploring the mysteries of Stonehenge, while Bucket really liked the idea of seeing London and Trafalgar Square.
Finally their mother said, “actually, I think I might have some news too. I’ve been awarded a sabbatical for next year,” she proudly stated and looked at each of her children.
“Uh, mom, what’s a sabbatical?” Arthur wondered.
“It’s a year when your mother gets paid to go to school and not to go to work The official approval just came through today. That was one of the reasons I was so late picking you up from choir. I didn’t find out until after the workshop was over. Well, isn’t that great?!” she asked, looking from one to the other.
“You mean you want to go to school?” Arthur asked, incredulous.
“Of course, Arthur, it’s like an honour. Isn’t it, mom?” Bucket said, trying to explain.
